Creating Natural Texture: How to Remove Shine from Wigs

In our wig collection, a wide range of synthetic wigs offer a natural look with a variety of styles, fine cuts and rich colors. However, sometimes the sheen of these wigs may inadvertently reveal their unnatural origins. Although a bright shine is what many women pursue when shaping their hair, the sheen of synthetic wigs can be too eye-catching if not handled properly.

If you are craving a more natural and realistic wig wearing effect, here are our carefully collected customer experience sharing, these top tips will help you effectively reduce the sheen of synthetic wigs and restore the real touch.

Tips – How to remove the shine from synthetic hair

While exploring ways to make synthetic wigs look more natural, I discovered dry shampoo on YouTube. It is widely considered to be one of the most effective ways to remove the shine from wigs. There are many dry shampoos on the market, and although their basic functions are similar, their actual effectiveness varies. After personal testing, I found that some products can do the job better than others. It is worth noting that many dry shampoos leave white powder after use, which can easily leave a mark on dark wigs. Therefore, it is particularly important to choose a dry shampoo designed for dark hair or one that does not leave a white residue after use. For blonde or white wigs, light-colored powder is less of a problem, so most dry shampoos on the market can easily deal with it.

When I apply it, I usually spray a layer of spray quickly. In order to accurately control the effect, I will use a small amount of spray multiple times, gradually increasing until I reach the ideal natural degree.

I've found that to remove the overly obvious synthetic sheen from a wig, you can lightly dust it with talcum powder or baby powder. However, this process can occasionally cause a minor annoyance, as the powder tends to spread everywhere. I've discovered a simple solution: using an unused makeup brush or a brush designed specifically for wigs to evenly apply the powder makes the process much easier. Just be careful not to overdo it, as it will make the wig look too dull! Once the powder is applied, take the wig outside or over the sink and gently shake and rub it to remove any excess powder residue.

Wash Away the Shine

I have long preferred to use fabric softener to subtly adjust the shine on my wigs. The special chemical composition in fabric softener can just reduce some of the shine of the wig without completely losing its natural brilliance. Through practice, I have found that for best results, you can first fill a large sink or deep bowl with clean water, then slowly add a few spoons of fabric softener to fully dissolve. Gently comb the wig with your fingertips during this time to help the fabric softener penetrate evenly. Afterwards, let it dry according to your daily habits.

(Note: Although this method may not be widely recommended in some occasions, we still have many customers who swear by and continue to use fabric softener serum to care for their wigs!)

The easiest way to do this is to let the shine of your wig soften over time as it naturally wears. Simply wash it as normal to start reducing the unnatural shine of your wig. But it's not a quick fix!

Tactical Styling

I've noticed that the shine of a wig is often more noticeable when it's perfectly styled. Style your wig with light waves or loose curls to add depth to the look while also reducing the shine and making it look more natural.
